A virtual world is a place where you create a virtual representation of yourself, this representation is called an avatar. with this avatar depending on the virtual world you are using you get to socialize, play games, attend conferences, walk around, fly and many other stuff... depending on the virtual world you can even create anything you want... The most advanced virutal world today is definitely Second Life, a world created by its users for its users, in Second Life you can even make money, get a job, attend events and many more in a 3D world.
